10 Tips To Keep Your Hair Healthy

1. Avoid exposure to the sun. Protect your hair from the harmful Ultraviolet rays of the sun. These can drastically damage your hair.

2. Take your multi-vitamins regularly to give you shine, thickness, and to promote hair growth. Some women require more supplements during and after child birth. Take a special formula for hair and nails. Although you can find these supplements on the shelves, you should try to get the nutrients you need from natural foods whenever possible.

3. Trim your hair regularly to keep your ends strong and to avoid split ends. If split ends are left uncut they will continue to split farther up the shaft and damage more of your hair. Get rid of them to keep the damage to a minimum.

4. Treat your hair to a home made mask once a week. You can try mayonnaise, eggs, olive oil, yogurt, warm coconut oil or mix any of these together to make your hair shiny and bouncy. This treatment can also help replenish the nutrients lost due to breast feeding and lack of sleep. I have tried the mayonnaise and olive oil hair mask and it is amazing. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to treat their hair to something really unbelievable.

5. Follow a consistent routine in your life so your body can relax and respond better to your demands. Take at least 8 hours of sleep daily and regularly.

6. Drink a lot of water. Your body needs a lot of fluid intake to be healthy. Drink at least 8 glasses of water each day. Fresh fruit juices, chamomile tea, soups and milk are all good and contain healthy nutrition.

7. Don’t blow dry your hair everyday. Prolong blow drying can permanently damage that part of your hair. Use hair products that are specially designed for dry/damaged hair. These will give your hair sheen and help protect each strand against the damage of heated styling tools, like blow driers and flat irons. Use styling tools sparingly.

8. Don’t use different hair products you see every time you visit a superstore. Remember these products contain a lot of chemicals that in the end can harm your precious hair. Terminate any use if you notice that you are losing more hair than usual.

9. Don’t wash your hair with very hot water since it will over dry your hair leading to rough split ends. Try washing your hair every second or third day to maintain a natural moisture balance.

10. Eat a lot of food rich in Zinc and Omega-3 fatty oils like fish, walnuts, cashew nuts. Essential omega-3 fatty acids are needed to support scalp health. These foods can promote new hair growth and prevent hair loss as well. It’s hard to beat salmon that is loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B-12 and iron. Dark green vegetables also provide iron and calcium.
